All signs are pointing to a drought up and down the Okanagan Valley this summer. In Vernon, things are so bad that in March, resevoir levels were only 32 per cent of normal. This prompted officials at the water utility to implement serious water restrictions, including banning the filling or even topping up of private swimming pools.
But woe to any politician that stands in the way of a pool owner who has been denied water. After an outcry the ban has been lifted. I chronicled how this happened in this Globe and Mail story, my first for a national newspaper.
